To commemorate this exciting event, The Heartland of the Prairie Dutch
Oven Society is hosting demonstrations for the public. Dutch oven
cooking will be demonstrated and small samples of "sweet things" from
the Dutch oven given to spectators. The demonstrators will be everyone
from very experienced cooks all the way to beginners. Spectators may
learn the basics of the fine art of historic camp cooking with cast iron
while visiting with members of the Heartland of the Prairie Dutch Oven
Society, the Central Oklahoma Dutch Oven Society, and the Oklahoma Dutch
Oven Group from Tulsa. All the basic ingredients for cooking up "sweet
things" in the Dutch oven will be supplied for you. Need a special

water, and any other needs you may have as a demonstrator will be
provided for you as well. Please be set up Saturday morning by 8:30 am.
It is our goal that this event will really demonstrate how anyone can
have fun with Dutch Oven cooking. The festivities will kick off on
Friday night with a DOG. The barbecue cookers will cook up fired fish
and the Dutch oven cookers will cook up the side dishes. On Saturday
morning, breakfast will be furnished by the Newkirk Chamber of Commerce

Sep 18-20, Western Spirit Celebration, A Cowboy Gathering in Duncan OK.
This is a 3-day event that features a chuck wagon cook-off,
entertainment, artisans, vendors, etc. We do this every year and lately
it has been quite successful.
We would like to have a Dutch oven demo/class either the 18th or 19th.
Do you know of anyone that can do this?
I'd like it to be with wood coals, with some info on charcoal for those
that might want to try something like this at home. We can supply
anything you might need. My name is Julie McKinney and I sure would like
some input. julie@... <

Sep 25-26-27, Fri-Sun; Wild Life Expo, at the Lazy E Arena near Guthrie,
OK. It will be transformed into the state's largest indoor and outdoor
recreation event. This event offers over 200 hands-on exhibits, skill
activities and demonstrations to over 35,000 people.
At the 2008 Wildlife Expo, our chapter conducted Dutch Oven
demonstrations and educational seminars featuring outdoor cooking with
the use of Dutch Ovens. We served over 7,000 samples of breads,
desserts, and wild game soups and stews cooked in the Dutch Oven and
held 15 educational seminars for the public. As planning begins for the
2009 Expo, we look forward to adding an authentic chuck wagon and living
history seminar featuring the Old Cowboy Cook. We are also planning to
cook our wild game soups & stews in a larger cauldron pot to be able to
serve more samples to the public! Last year, we cooked wild boar &
beans, alligator gumbo, and elk stew. YOUR ASSISTANCE IS NEEDED to help
demonstrate Dutch Oven cooking and make this an unforgettable learning
experience for all. If you would like to help, please contact Curtis &
Gaye Ann Grace at 580.362.3978 or e-mail gayeanngrace@ ... <
